Picture on scientific research

Why Us?

We know, research may look intimidating. Complex equations, weird looking jargons [1] [1] Who cares about ‘Methionylthreonylthreonylglutaminylarginyl... isoleucine’ ? and confusing scatter plots.

Contrary to popular belief, research is not a competition of who uses more complicated Greek symbols in their equations, or who sounds more ‘chim’ in their explanation of a chemical reaction. It’s about the process of scientific inquiry. You can use research to answer interesting questions which may have crossed your mind. Are short people more likely to be single? Why is it that the bus always arrive RIGHT BEFORE we reach the bus-stop? Why does a wet shirt look darker to the human eye?

Our goal is here is not to make you memorise every part of the human body or the entire electromagnetic spectrum, but to make you experience the research process in its entirety, so that you can better tackle fascinating questions and discover the answers on your own. We want to show you the power of SCIENTIFIC INQUIRY.

Our Goals

Spark Curiosity and Interest in Scientific Research

Have you ever wondered why mimosa plants along the curbside are always so "shy"? Why Singapore's weather is perpetually hot? And how an air-conditioner can magically cool a room down? I'm sure these are all very relatable experiences. Through our workshops, we hope to cultivate a sense of wonder in the surrounding environment. Amazing discoveries are often made when we view the world with an inquisitive & open mind!

Democratise Research Opportunities

As current students and fresh graduates, we've experienced the disparities in research opportunities across schools first-hand. Through these efforts, we hope to bridge this gap and bring research opportunities to as many interested students as possible. You don't need an electron microscope, or some crazy expensive equipment to do good research. If you're not convinced, we will show it to you!

Cultivate Culture of Mentorship and Support

We hope to build a local community of aspiring scientists and create a strong support network for students to build connections and seek advice. We are all pretty experienced student researchers in different fields, and you're more than welcome to contact us if you need any help or support. Just drop us an email or fill up this form with your question, and we will try our best to help you!

Frequently Asked Questions

Who are you?

We are a group of passionate Junior College students and graduates hoping to make research more fun and exciting for everyone! For more information about us, please visit About Us.

How can I trust you and your programs?

This initiative is supported by the National Youth Council! We’ve conducted the sessions at 4 schools and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive! Feel free to visit Past Events for more information.

How do I sign up for your program?

Whether you are a school teacher seeking collaboration or a student wanting to find out more, just drop us an email at contact@research4fun.org!

Are all of these free?

Yes! All of us are doing it on a completely voluntary basis. Our primary goal is to democratize access to research, and the last thing we want to do is to put these programs behind a paywall.
